NORM is new and unprecedented, and you’ve got lots of questions - we get it.

Here are some of the biggest questions you might be asking, along with answers from our team of experts.

Of course we can’t cover all possible questions here. So if there’s something else you’d like to know, please get in touch.

What does NORM consist of?

NORM has two components: the NORM Belt and the NORM App. You wear the NORM Belt for 60 seconds each day so that it can communicate with your sensor implant. The NORM App operates the NORM Belt, sends the reading from the NORM Belt to your clinic and supplies you with the data needed to monitor the condition of your heart (known as your “fluid status”).

How do the NORM belt and app communicate with each other?

The NORM Belt and NORM App communicate wirelessly using Bluetooth.

Do I need an Internet connection?

Yes. In order to send the reading to your clinic, or to check your fluid status, you’ll need a reliable Internet connection. This can be provided by a Wi-Fi or cellular data network.

How long do I have to wear the NORM Belt?

Only 60 seconds a day - that’s enough time to reveal your fluid status for that day.

When should I take my reading? And where?

We advise patients to take their reading each morning after they’ve gone to the bathroom. The best places to do it? Anywhere you can comfortably lie down - like a bed or a couch.

I don’t have a smartphone and I’m not a very “techie” person. Is that okay?

No problem at all – we’ll provide you with a phone that has the NORM App installed on it. And don’t worry about using the NORM App - we’ve designed it in such a way that anybody can use it, no matter how tech savvy or not.

How big is the whole NORM system? Can I bring it on vacation?

You certainly can. NORM is all about helping you get back to your normal life without getting in the way. So we’ve designed the system to be about the size of a washbag, meaning you can take it with you on vacation, visiting friends or family, on an overnight work trip… pretty much anywhere!

How often should I charge the NORM Belt? How long does it take to charge?

The NORM Belt’s battery lasts up to 1 month, so you might only have to charge it 12 times a year. It takes about an hour to charge fully.

Can I use the NORM App on my own phone?

Not at present. We will provide you with a cell phone that has the NORM App installed on it.

Does my cardiology team see my readings?

Yes. The data from your NORM Belt is sent to a secure website where your cardiology team can quickly and reliably assess your fluid status within seconds of you completing your reading. This allows your cardiology team to act quickly if needed. Meanwhile, you can get on with your normal life.

Do I get to see my fluid status?

Absolutely. NORM is all about giving you more control, so you’ll be able to see what your fluid status is as soon as your reading has been received by your cardiology team. Then you’ll receive the appropriate guidance from the team based on that reading.

Is getting the implant a complicated procedure?

No, getting the NORM implant is a short, simple procedure. It’s a bit like getting a stent.

You’ll receive a physical examination beforehand and a blood sample will be taken. In some cases, you may need to be sedated. After the procedure, some tests will be performed to ensure the sensor is in place and working correctly. When the procedure has finished, you’ll be transferred to a bed and cared for until you’re fully recovered.

If you’d like to know more about the NORM implant procedure, it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor.

How long will it take me to recover after getting the implant?

You should be fully recovered and mobile again around 8 hours after the procedure. In most cases, you’ll be discharged the same day or the following day.
